Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Retailers

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Retailers

Construction Helix Mattress Retailers

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Retailers

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models seem quite right, you could always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Retailers

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Retailers

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
