Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Problems
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Problems

Construction Helix Mattress Problems
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Problems
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Problems
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Problems
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
