Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Phone

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Phone

Construction Helix Mattress Phone

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Phone

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Phone

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Phone

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
