Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Pad
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Pad

Construction Helix Mattress Pad
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Pad
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options feel right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Pad
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Pad
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
