Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Materials

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Mattress Materials

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Materials

Construction Helix Mattress Materials

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Materials

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Materials

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Materials

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
