Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Longevity

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Mattress Longevity

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Longevity

Construction Helix Mattress Longevity

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Longevity

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models feel right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Longevity

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Longevity

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
