Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress In Canada

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress In Canada

Construction Helix Mattress In Canada

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress In Canada

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress In Canada

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress In Canada

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
