Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress In A Box
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress In A Box

Construction Helix Mattress In A Box
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress In A Box
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options sound quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress In A Box
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress In A Box
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
