Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Giveaway

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Giveaway

Construction Helix Mattress Giveaway

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Giveaway

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Giveaway

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Giveaway

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
