Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Frame
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Frame

Construction Helix Mattress Frame
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Frame
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Frame
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Frame
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
