Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Foam Density
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Foam Density

Construction Helix Mattress Foam Density
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Foam Density
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models feel right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Foam Density
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Foam Density
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
