Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Factory

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Factory

Construction Helix Mattress Factory

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Factory

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Factory

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Factory

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
