Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Expansion Time
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Expansion Time

Construction Helix Mattress Expansion Time
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Expansion Time
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options seem right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Expansion Time
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
