Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Exchange
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Exchange

Construction Helix Mattress Exchange
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Exchange
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you may always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Exchange
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Exchange
Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
