Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Cover
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Cover

Construction Helix Mattress Cover
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Cover
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Cover
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Cover
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
