Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Construction

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Construction

Construction Helix Mattress Construction

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Construction

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Construction

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Construction

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
