Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Competitors

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Competitors

Construction Helix Mattress Competitors

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Competitors

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options feel right, you could always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Competitors

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Competitors

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
