Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Break In Period
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Break In Period

Construction Helix Mattress Break In Period
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Break In Period
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Break In Period
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Break In Period
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
