Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Bed Frame

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Bed Frame

Construction Helix Mattress Bed Frame

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Bed Frame

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Bed Frame

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Bed Frame

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
