Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Bad Review
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Bad Review

Construction Helix Mattress Bad Review
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Bad Review
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Bad Review
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Bad Review
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
