Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Assembly
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Assembly

Construction Helix Mattress Assembly
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Assembly
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models sound right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Assembly
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Assembly
Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
