Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Luxury
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Luxury

Construction Helix Luxury
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Luxury
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options seem right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Luxury
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Luxury
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
