Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Luxury Adjustable Bed

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Luxury Adjustable Bed

Construction Helix Luxury Adjustable Bed

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Luxury Adjustable Bed

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Luxury Adjustable Bed

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Luxury Adjustable Bed

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
