Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Long Term Review
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Long Term Review

Construction Helix Long Term Review
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Long Term Review
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Long Term Review
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Long Term Review
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
Final Thoughts Helix Long Term Review

The features of this mattress were thoughtfully manufactured to deliver options whether you were searching for a mattress that keeps cool all night, if you wanted one to cradle your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The coil unit should offer good edge support and movement transfer is at a minimum with their individually-wrapped construction.
