Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix King Size Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix King Size Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix King Size Mattress

Construction Helix King Size Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix King Size Mattress

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you could always check out the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix King Size Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix King Size Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
