Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Construction Helix King Mattress Dimensions

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
