Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix King Hybrid Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix King Hybrid Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix King Hybrid Mattress

Construction Helix King Hybrid Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix King Hybrid Mattress

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you could always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix King Hybrid Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix King Hybrid Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
