Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Instagram
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Instagram

Construction Helix Instagram
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Instagram
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options sound right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Instagram
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Instagram
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
