Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Icon
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Icon

Construction Helix Icon
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Icon
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Icon
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
