Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Heat
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Heat

Construction Helix Heat
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Heat
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound quite right, you can always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Heat
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Heat
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
