Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Funding

Construction Helix Funding
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Funding
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Funding
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
