Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Full Bed

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Full Bed

Construction Helix Full Bed

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Full Bed

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Full Bed

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Full Bed

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
