Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Foundation Review

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Foundation Review

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Foundation Review

Construction Helix Foundation Review

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Foundation Review

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Foundation Review

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Foundation Review

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.

Final Thoughts Helix Foundation Review

If you are shopping for a mattress and are not quite sure what feel that you require, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz may be the secret to unlocking your best sleep with minimal hassle. Their awesome system, which relies on expert opinions and AI, was created to improve their client’s sleep by offering a better match. Helix Foundation Review

The features of this mattress were thoughtfully manufactured to deliver choices whether you were looking for a mattress that keeps cool all night, if you needed one to cradle your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The reinforced coil unit should provide good edge support and movement transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped build.
