Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Foundation Assembly
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Foundation Assembly

Construction Helix Foundation Assembly
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Foundation Assembly
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Foundation Assembly
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Foundation Assembly
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
