Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Forest
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Forest

Construction Helix Forest
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Forest
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you can always check out the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Forest
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Forest
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
