Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix For Back Pain
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix For Back Pain

Construction Helix For Back Pain
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix For Back Pain
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix For Back Pain
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix For Back Pain
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
