Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Foam Mattress

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Foam Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Foam Mattress

Construction Helix Foam Mattress

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Foam Mattress

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Foam Mattress

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Foam Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
