Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

Construction Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you could always check out the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Dusk Mattress Reviews

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
