Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Dictionary
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dictionary

Construction Helix Dictionary
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Dictionary
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Dictionary
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Dictionary
Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
