Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Dawn Mattress Review
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Construction Helix Dawn Mattress Review
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Dawn Mattress Review
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Dawn Mattress Review
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Dawn Mattress Review
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
