Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Craig Schmeizer
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Craig Schmeizer

Construction Helix Craig Schmeizer
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Craig Schmeizer
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Craig Schmeizer
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Craig Schmeizer
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
