Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Competitors
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Competitors

Construction Helix Competitors
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Competitors
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options feel quite right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Competitors
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Competitors
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
