Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Boston
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Boston

Construction Helix Boston
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Boston
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you could always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Boston
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Boston
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
