Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Bedroom Set

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Bedroom Set

Construction Helix Bedroom Set

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Bedroom Set

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options feel right, you could always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Bedroom Set

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bedroom Set

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
