Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Vs Ghostbed
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Bed Vs Ghostbed

Construction Helix Bed Vs Ghostbed
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Bed Vs Ghostbed
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Vs Ghostbed
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Bed Vs Ghostbed
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
