Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Versus
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed Versus

Construction Helix Bed Versus
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Bed Versus
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Versus
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed Versus
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
