Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Unboxing
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Bed Unboxing

Construction Helix Bed Unboxing
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Bed Unboxing
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Bed Unboxing
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
