Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Returns

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Bed Returns

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed Returns

Construction Helix Bed Returns

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Bed Returns

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models sound right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Returns

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Bed Returns

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
