Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Faq

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Bed Faq

Construction Helix Bed Faq

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Bed Faq

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Faq

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Bed Faq

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
