Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Comparison

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Bed Comparison

Construction Helix Bed Comparison

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Bed Comparison

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Comparison

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Bed Comparison

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
